The Mighty Oaks of New England 11/06/2008
All that is left after the maples, birch and beech trees have lost their leaves to Autumn's masterpiece, is the beautiful oak leaves that have transformed their colors from a deep green of summer to deep reds and browns. Add Comment Almost November 10/29/2008
I can see why the end of October is perfect for Halloween. It rained yesterday as a cold front began working it's way through. Last night was windy as is today and the temps have dipped into the 40s. Many of the trees are now bare and the sky is grey and daunting. You can almost feel winter's icy fingers approaching. The day light hours are getting short and Saturday night we go back to standard time. Post Title. 10/27/2008
The beautiful, vibrant colors of autumn have passed and have given way for the rich, warm, browns, rusts, burnt oranges, and golden hues of mid autumn. This is my favorite part of fall that will continue until Thanksgiving. Post Title. 10/16/2008
It's no secret that my favorite season is Autumn. I love the falling leaves and cooler weather. But, last night reminded me why this season is so special. I took Fred out on his leash and while waiting for him to do his business, it came to me....it's the scent of Autumn that is so intoxicating!! The smell of the leaves on the ground mingling with the smell of wood smoke in the air was very comforting to me. This feeling continued as I opened the door to go back in the house. I was greeted with the warm smell of the chicken stew I had simmering on the stove, fresh cornbread baking in the oven and my pumpkin candle burning on the counter. Post Title. 10/16/2008
14 years ago today, Steve and I were exchanging vows in the "Old Hampstead Meeting Hall" with family and close friends around us. I can truthfully say that these past years have been the best years of my life. We are still each other's best friend and our time spent together has been filled with love and respect. Have we had some bumpy roads to get through?? Sure, haven't we all, but we have always come through stronger and more in love. so, Steve, Happy Anniversary!! I love you. Over Too Quickly 10/15/2008
Sigh, our yearly autumn vacation is over. It's back to normal schedules again. It was great while it lasted. Steve was able to get quite a bit of work done in the early part of the week and we enjoyed some drives to nowhere during the last half of the week. Although, we did not have to leave our own back yard this year for glorious autumn foliage, everywhere that we went our breath was taken with all the brilliant colors New England is known for. We have just reached the color peak here and by weeks end, we will be raking and preparing the yard and gardens for winter. Maxine is at it again! 10/03/2008
Autumn, in all her Glory 10/03/2008
Gorgeous October! The leaves are changing quickly, the daylight hours are shorter and the wind picks up the fallen leaves just to see them float back to earth again. For the first time this season, I had to turn the furnace on this morning to take the chill out of the house. Bombs Away!! 09/25/2008
There is one thing about living here that drives me "nuts"!! We are surrounded by beautiful, old Oak trees and we all have metal roofs. Every year at this time, it sounds as if we were at war and being attacked day and night. The cause, you ask? We have squirrels that jump on the oak limbs until a shower of acorns hit our roofs like tiny bombs! Even our dog Fred has been known to run for cover during some of these raids. Soon enough it will end and we shall have peace again throughout the next several months. Would I trade living here because of this? Naw.....I really love the little critters despite their little antics that we seem to have to end Life Thoughts By Ducky 09/24/2008
