The Welcome Center
As we were leaving Howe Caverns, we saw the welcome center at the base of the driveway. I took a couple pictures while Steve was inside and I joined him in a room where a beautiful mural was being painted by Maryann. We took pictures of her mural and also of the guide, Veronica, who greets people at the center. We had a wonderful conversation and they were both so helpful.
We were back on the road and headed back home......the LONG way! We were on our way to one attraction when I saw a sign for Auriesville 4 miles. When I was very young, my parents went to a shrine there during Christmas time. So, off we went to the shrine! All I can say is wow! Such a quiet place to be. Inside the shrine is just breathtaking. Everything on and near the alters is hand carved. I am not a Catholic, but how I would love to hear a mass there. If you ever get the chance to be near there, don't hesitate to go inside. Here are pictures that we took there.
As we drove through the rest of New York and Vermont we found these interesting sites. Here are some of the buildings we encountered
Just before dark, we came across a hay bale competition in Vermont. Here is a collage of the entries.
